BELMONT -- Thomas Edward "Ed" Skelton, 90, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Stanley Total Living Center. A native of Pickens County, S.C., he was the son of the late Clarence and Carrie Kelly Skelton.
Mr. Skelton was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army and a member and former Deacon of First Baptist Church, Belmont. He was a Master Mason, Belmont Lodge #627 AF&AM for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva Keener Gantt Skelton of Stanley; sister, Gertrude Henderson Nix of Easley, S.C.; nieces, Carol H. Walsh and husband Bill of Easley, Joyce Gillespie and husband Graham of Six Mile, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 43 years, Eunice Robinson Skelton.
Graveside services with Military Rites by the Gaston County Honor Guard will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 8 at Gaston Memorial Park, Mausoleum of Peace (on the West side of New Hope Road).
