GASTONIA - Melvin "Johnny" Sikes, 81, passed away April 13, 2014, at Stanley Total Living Center.

He was a native of Cobb Town, Ga., son of the late Robbie and Bertie Holland Sikes.
In addition to his parents Melvin was preceded in death by a son, Paul David Sikes and brother, Derick Sikes.
Melvin was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He retired as a cable operator in the textile industry and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl Allman Sikes; son, Mike Sikes and wife Teresa; brothers, Roy Sikes, Gary Sikes and wife Diane; sisters, Laverne Padget and husband Jesse, Rebe Padget; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.
A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors with Pastor Andy Raines officiating.
Interment will follow the service at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City.
