GASTONIA - Harry Clarkson Wentz, 95, passed away April 14, 2014, after an extended illness.

He was born Dec. 8, 1918, in Gaston County, to the late William and Lucy Brimer Wentz.
Harry is survived by his sons, David Wentz and wife, Sarah of Gastonia, Harry P. Wentz and wife Carol of Belmont, step-son, Eddie Pierce and wife, Nancy of Shelby, step-daughter, Christine Sexton of Charlotte; sisters, Catherine Denton of Gastonia and Nancy McCoig of Wake Forest, NC; grandchildren, Stephen Wentz of Arlington, VA, Lisa Hoefle of Belmont, NC, Darrell Wentz and wife, Wendy of Moneta,VA, Chris Carter of Kernersville, NC, Carrie Carter of Charlotte; 3 great-grandchildren, Courtney Hoefle, Cody Klein and Destiny Pridgen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Harry Clarkson Wentz was preceded in death by two wives, Lena Bridges Wentz and Beunie Pierce Wentz; one daughter, Cathy Sizemore; several brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Mt. Holly. Dr. Kendell Cameron and Dr. Bob Winecoff will preside.
Burial will be at Forest Lawn West Cemetery in Charlotte.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to all the staff at Terrace Ridge Assisted Living for all their compassion and care shown to Harry.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 300 S. Main St, Mount Holly, NC 28120.
