GASTONIA - Mabel Lowery Byrum Earnhardt, 88, died April 14, 2014, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Charlotte, daughter of the late Walter Martin Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Syble Gillespie Byrum.

Mabel retired from NCNB in 1983. She loved gardening, General Hospital, NASCAR, and the Atlanta Braves, but her greatest love was her fam-ily. She had lived for the past ten years in Gastonia to be close to her great-grandchildren and to attend their activities.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Don Stoen of Florence, MT; grandson, Scott Cable of Myrtle Beach, SC; grand-daughter, Christi Jolley and husband Alan of Gastonia; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Sophi Jolley of Gastonia; brother and sister-in-law, Richard W. and Cindy Byrum of Lawrenceville, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Martin Dulin of Charlotte; she had a special relationship with her sister-in-law, Betty Jo Byrum of Rock Hill, SC, and her daughters, Lisa Marie Huppman of Ellicott City, MD and Kim (Jack) Patton of Mount Holly, NC; sister-in-law, Evelyn Byrum of Charlotte; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Howard N., Lindsey T., Walter Martin Jr., Edgar Giles, John Wesley, and Jack Ray Byrum.

The family would like to extend their special thanks to Mabel's friends, Debra Brackett and Bonnie Cannon.

The family will receive friends Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.

A graveside service will be held for the family at Oaklawn Cemetery in Charlotte.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 258 W. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, NC 28052.
