GASTONIA - Bobby Ray Freeman Sr., SSgt US Army, Ret., 81, died April 23, 2014, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Roy and Mae Freeman.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan and a brother, Donald.
Bob joined the Coast Guard at age 15 then the US Army at age 16 serving for 21 years with service in Korea and Vietnam and was a participant in Operation Tea Pot in Nevada. He retired as a Staff Sergeant from the 7th Special Forces Group.

Survivors include his wife of fifty two years Rika Gehm Freeman; sons, Donald and Brenda Freeman, Bobby Freeman, Jr., David and Cindy Freeman, Larry and Angie Freeman, Tommy and Allison Freeman; brothers, Ray and Darlene Freeman, Larry Freeman; sister, Martie and Joe Harris and Grandchildren, Summer Ann Wilson, Bobby, Jennifer, Ethan, Erika, and Paigelan Freeman.

A visitation will be held from 1 until 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014, at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia with a funeral to follow at 3 p.m. in the Founders Chapel with Pastor John Mayberry officiating.

Entombment will be in Gaston Memorial Park with military honors rendered by the US Army Honor Guard, Ft. Bragg.
