GASTONIA - Ruth Bumgardner Yancey died May 5, 2014, at her home.

She was a native of Gaston County, one of ten children to the late William Audie and Ruth Blackwood Bumgardner.

Mrs. Yancey served as president of Southern Reneedling Works, Inc. after the death of her husband who founded the company in 1950. She was a lifelong, active member of First United Methodist Church of Gastonia where she served in the Builders Sunday School class, the Friendship Club, and Circle #4. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #169, and Gaston Country Club. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed ballroom dancing. She will be remembered for her lively spirit, excellent sense of style, and love of fashion.

Survivors of Mrs. Yancey include her daughter and son-in-law, Donna Y. and Bobby Dellinger; daughter-in-law, Ann Yancey, all of Gastonia; grand-children, Robert and Virginia Dellinger of Raleigh, NC; Donna and Jeff Phelps of Gastonia; Elizabeth Hope Yancey and Brian Parry of Charlotte, NC; Judith Yancey of Brooklyn, NY; great-grandchildren, Emma Dellinger, Sara Dellinger, and Dylan Phelps; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and nine siblings, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Howard Buren Yancey Sr. and her son, Howard Buren Yancey Jr.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 9, 2014 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Hospitality Room of First United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday in the church sanctuary with Rev. David Christy and Dr. James Westmoreland officiating.

Entombment will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park.
