GASTONIA - Marvin Alfred Hawkins, 89, passed away May 26, 2014, after a long illness.

He was born Aug. 10, 1924, in Gaston County, to the late Roy and Rosa Goble Hawkins. Marvin served his country in the Navy during WWII and was a member of West Franklin Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and trustee. Marvin worked at Threads as a machinist and in the maintenance de-partment and later became property manager to several properties he owned.
Marvin is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 30 years, Betty Pope Hawkins; stepchildren, Scott Martin and wife, Trudy, Bill Hall and wife, Nancy, Beverly Isaac and husband, Tom; sister, Irene Bollinger and husband, Gene; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a special grand dog, Zoey.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Gaston Memorial Park. The Rev. Jeff Williams will officiate.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to West Franklin Baptist Church.
