BELMONT - Ellen Clary Painter, 82, passed away May 31, 2014, at Morningside Assisted Living, Gas-tonia.

A native of Gaffney, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Lunette Price Clary, wife of the late John Thomas "Red" Painter, mother of the late Matthew Lewis Painter.
Mrs. Painter was a long-time and faithful member of First United Methodist Church, Belmont where she was active with United Methodist Women. She loved her family dearly and was supportive of her sons' sports and scouting interests. Her interests included traveling with the family on various adven-tures and square dancing. She retired from Belk as an executive assistant with over 40 years of service.
She is survived by her sons, Mark and Anita Painter of Belmont, Mike Painter of Concord, Mitch and Karen Painter of Belmont; grandchildren, Meredith, Morgan, Megan, Seth, Kaylee and Mitchell Painter; great grandchildren, Kinsley and Rylan Painter.
A service celebrating the life of Mrs. Painter will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Belmont with Dr.
Charles W. Baker officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in Carpenter Hall.
