STANLEY - Truman Jesse Henderson, 93, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 5, 2014.

He was born April 29, 1921, in Lake Toxaway, son of the late Charles and Millie Henderson.

Mr. Henderson retired from A&P Tea Company in Charlotte in 1984. He was a WWII US Navy Veteran. Mr. Henderson was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for many years. His life was a testimony to those who knew him.
He was well-loved by his family and friends. Truman enjoyed gardening, yard work, working jigsaw puzzles and watching Braves baseball.

Truman is survived by his wife, Gladys Nash Henderson; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Sudie York of Stanley and Mo and Linda York of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Barry Friday of Stanley; four grandchildren, Shana Biggerstaff, Chris York, Craig Friday and Patricia Williams; six great-grandchildren Johnathan Biggerstaff, Emily Biggerstaff, Sarah York, Corey York, Caroline York and Samantha Williams and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings Birdell Moore, Lyle Henderson, Marjorie Edney, Truett Henderson, Mildred McCall, Claxton Henderson and Barbara Montgomery. A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Henderson will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at Faith Baptist Church, 5194 Old Plank Road, Iron Station, NC 28080, with the Rev. Mike Scott officiating.

Burial will be at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
