LINCOLNTON – Donald "Don" Howard Leo Caughey, 78, passed away on Friday, June 6 at his home. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA, a son of the late James and Agnes Cadzow Caughey on August 28, 1935.
Don graduated from Greensburg, High School and received his A.S. Degree in Criminal Justice from Gas-ton College. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service, worked as a police officer with both Gastonia and Gaston County Police Dept. and worked with Wix Corp. He was a loving man, an avid reader and grill master and was a raving fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He loved riding his John Deere and adored his dogs; Mac, Pepper, Ike, Jazz, Ginger, Pup & Rusty.
He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Nellie Brown Caughey; children, Heath Caughey and wife Jodi of Gastonia, Shane Caughey and wife Sondra of Gastonia, Mary Little of Kings Mountain, Mark Little of Shelby; sister, Nancy Malis; brothers, Jay Caughey and wife Barbara, Roger Caughey all of Greensburg, PA; grandchildren, Haylee, Alex and Dakota Caughey and Christopher Little as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt, Mildred Cadzow and granddaughter, Caroline Waddell.
A service to celebrate Don's life will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday in the Founder's Chapel of McLean Fu-neral Directors, Gastonia with Military Rites by the Gaston County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends following the service.
