GASTONIA - Hazel Ford Erlewein, 91, died June 17, 2014, at Terrace Ridge Assisted Living Center in Gastonia.

Hazel was born in Gastonia on July 29, 1922, to the late Lawrence R. Ford and Sophia Wright Ford. Ha-zel loved reading historical novels, water aerobics at the YMCA, playing the piano, teaching Sunday school, her family, her friends at Ford's and her white Lincoln Town Car.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda S. Hendrickson of Mount Laurel, NJ, her son, Paul L. Erlewein Jr. and wife Senaida of San Antonio, Texas; her sister, Ruby Carson of Gastonia; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Paul L. Erlewein Sr.; her brothers, William H. Ford and Charles R. Ford.
A graduate of Gastonia High School, Hazel was a faithful member of New Hope Presbyterian Church in Gastonia where she led the Senior Citizen Group. Prior to that, she served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Warren Point Presbyterian Church in Fair Lawn, N.J. Her family wishes to thank Patti, Scott and Toni, and the entire staff at Terrace Ridge for their compassion, love and support.
Friends and family may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at McLean Funeral Directors, Gastonia.
Services to be held 11 a.m. Saturday at McLean's Founder's Chapel.
Burial to follow at New Hope Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
