BELMONT - Joyce McSwain Sutton, 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Thursday, July 3, 2014.
She is the daughter of the late William and Pauline Leatherman McSwain. She was a native of Gaston County and a member of East Belmont Presbyterian Church.

Joyce retired from Southern Bell after 30 years of service. After her retirement, she then went to work at Belmont Parks and Recreation and Hannon Orthadontics. She was very active in the Belmont Communi-ty. Her grandchildren and great-grandchild were the joy of her life. Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always put others before herself and was mindful of people's feelings. Joyce was a thoughtful person, and everyone that knew her loved her dearly.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband, John Sutton; loving son, John Gene Sutton and wife, Donna of Belmont; Grandchildren, Ashli Elizabeth Sutton Lanier and fiancé, Michael Taylor, Emili Alexandria "Alex" Sutton; Great-Granddaughter, Ella Jase Taylor; Sister, Dorothy "Dot" Moore of Belmont; special loving aunt/sister, Alice Rushing of Belmont.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

A celebration of life service will be 4 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2014, at East Belmont Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Steve Robinson and Raymond Kruntorad officiating.

Inurnment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her loving brother, Eddie McSwain.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.

A special thanks to Dr. Michael Case and Joyce's hospice nurses for their compassionate care.
