GASTONIA - Betty Caldwell Taylor, 88, died Aug. 5, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Gaston County, daughter of the late Edward Newman Caldwell and Robbie Riddle Caldwell.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She graduated from Clover High School in 1942 and Evan's Business School. She worked for Spencer Lumber Company and C.E. Smith & Son. In 1952, she began a 45 year accounting career with Kluttz Machine and Foundry until 1997 when she retired. After retirement she delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered at Crisis Assistance Ministry.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Frances C. Starnes, brothers, J. William, Edward R., Robert E., Joseph L., and Harold Jenks Caldwell. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Survivors include her son, William Paul Taylor, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia T. and David A. Johnson; grandsons, Christopher David Johnson, all of Gastonia; Brian Patrick Johnson and fiancé, Laura Warren of Arden, NC; great-granddaughter, Mazeline S. "Mazzy" Johnson. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who were so special to her.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ronald Digby, Matt Kuiken, Donna Tyree, Helen Conrad, Jeanie Davis and the staff of Gaston Hospice for all of their care and concern.

A service to celebrate Mrs. Taylor's life will be held Friday in Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia with the Rev. Matt Kuiken officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will follow the service at Bowling Green Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
