CHERRYVILLE - Wilburn Max Shelton, 72, passed away Aug. 15, 2014.

He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Thomas Wilburn and Beuna Shelton.
He was a Deacon and RA and Sunday School Teacher at New Life Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Becky Abernathy Shelton; three children, Donna Buff and husband Robert of Lincolnton, Tommy Shelton and wife Leslie of Mount Holly and Anna Reynolds and husband Stevie of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Alice Rhyne and husband Dan and Ann Smith and husband Cecil; five grandchildren Amber, Taylor and Trent Shelton, Chris Reynolds and Reese Bowser; and a special friend, Benny Steerman.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the Carolina Care Nurses, the nurses on the 3rd and 4th floors at CRMC, and Dr. Young in Cherryville.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Shelton will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly with the Rev. Kenneth Faulkenberry officiating.
Burial will be at Christ's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Stanley.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
