GASTONIA - Margaret Page Walker Hill, 93, died on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014.

Ms. Hill was born on May 22, 1921, in Campobello, S.C.; the daughter of the late Milton and Annie Mae Page. She grew up and attended public schools in Spartanburg County, S.C. Ms. Hill was a shoe store manager for many years in Gastonia, N.C. She lived in Dallas, N.C., where she single-handedly raised three children. After her children were grown, she moved to Jacksonville, Fla., where she worked as the Buyer in ladies shoes for Ivey's Department Stores. She ended her career back in Gastonia, N.C., working for her son-in-law in the insurance industry.

Ms. Hill is survived by a daughter, Anne Walker Hoffman of Gastonia, N.C.; a son, Everett H. Walker Jr. of Blowing Rock, N.C., and two brothers, Roy C. Page (Patricia) of Bellevue, Wash., and James F. Page (Sheila) of Shreveport, La. She was proud to claim 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren as a special and cherished part of her family. The grandchildren are; Edwin G. Bell Jr. (Chuck) of Leland, N.C., John C. Bell (Chris) of Gastonia, N.C., Martin Craig Bell of Gastonia, N.C., Margaret Bell Leatherwood (Meg) of Gastonia, N.C., Patrick H. Bell of Charleston, S.C., Carl W. Hoffman Jr (Toby) of Columbia, S.C., Allyson Hoffman Dunn of Columbia, S.C., Bradley W. Hoffman of Smyrna, Ga., J. Brandon Walker of New York, N.Y., and Kevin B. Walker of Blowing Rock, N.C. Additional survivors are a son-in-law, Edwin Graham Bell of Gastonia, N.C., and a daughter-in-law, Linda Burke Walker of Blowing Rock, N.C. Ms. Hill was preceded in death by her husband, James O. Hill of Vilas, N.C. Another daughter, Gayle Walker Bell, preceded Ms. Hill in death, as did seven brothers and two sisters.

Ms. Hill was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church. The family would like to thank the members and ministers of First United Methodist Church of Gastonia for their continued support during Ms. Hill's long illness. They would also like to thank the staff of Gaston Hospice for their compassionate care of Ms. Hill.

Family and friends of Ms. Hill are invited to attend her memorial service beginning at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service until 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be held privately for family at Evergreen Mausoleum.
