Gastonia-Dan Roger Caldwell, 82, went to be with the Lord Aug. 30, 2014 at his home.

He was a native of Gastonia, NC, son of the late Jacob Floyd Caldwell and Sally Mae Myers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Pauline Caldwell, two sisters Joyce Halus and Marlene Earley.
Roger was a lifetime member of Temple Baptist Church. He retired as a captain with thirty-three years of service with the City of Gastonia Fire Department. He was also a veteran in which he served in the US Navy as an aircraft mechanic on the B-17 and various other aircraft.
Survivors include: Daughters; Nena C. Horne and husband Harold, Susan C. Lang and husband Mark, sister, Ruby Lee, step-brother, Vernon Moore, step-sisters, Cindy Redling, Molly Lamberth, and Sherry Seagraves, grandchildren; Roger Horne and wife Jennifer, Michelle Hendrix and husband Mike, Kyle Lang, and Garrett Lang and one great-grandchild; Brayden Hendrix.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm, Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014 at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.
A funeral service will be held 4 p.m. in the Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors, Gastonia with the Rev. Michael Sepaugh officiating.
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
