GASTONIA - Ona Elizabeth Howard Baucom, 89, of 1601 Fairfield Drive, formerly of Kannapolis, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Abingdon Place of Gastonia.

Born Feb. 4, 1920, in Union County to the late Ben Howard and Julia Edwards Howard, she was a retired weaver of Cannon Mills.
She was a champion quilter and an active member of First Baptist Church. She was active in various mission work at her church and assisted with the Night Shelter in Concord, along with her husband, the late Boyce Baucom.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyce C. Baucom, who died Aug. 23, 2000.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at the First Baptist Church in Concord with the Revs. Tom Anderson and Barry Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.
A visitation will be conducted Monday, Feb. 17, 2009, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord.
Survivors include four sons, Larry Baucom and wife Rhonda of Lynchburg, Va., Howard Baucom and wife Barbara of Round Hill, Va., Phillip Baucom and wife Sharon of Clayton, Kent Baucom and wife Anne of Gastonia; four sisters, Leatha Cox of Brevard, Lena Stegall of Olive Branch, Lucy Napier of Monroe, Eltes Bradshaw of Newport News, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Keith Baucom and wife Nell of Olive Branch, Heath Baucom and wife Brenda of Olive Branch; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
