BELMONT - Clarence "Patrick" Armstrong III, 57, died March 9, 2011.
He was born May 18, 1953, in Charlotte, the son of Harriet Harrison Armstrong and the late C.P. Armstrong Jr.
Patrick graduated from Gaston Day School in 1971, attended Gaston College and received a B.S. degree in oceanography from UNC Wilmington in 1975. He worked for CORE Laboratories on the Gulf Coast and since the early 1980s has worked for Gaston County and was active with FEMA. At the time of his death he was a senior environmental planner and plat review officer for Gaston County Planning and Development Services.
He served on the planning board for the city of Belmont and was active in caring for the Pine-brook Swim Club. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Belmont, and was a for-mer Boy Scout and pilot.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Donna Miller Armstrong of the home; his daughters, Melissa Armstrong of the home, Melody Adams and husband Daniel of Charlotte and Leslie Miller of Charlotte; and his grandchildren, Mason Adams and Ella Grace Adams.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at McLean Funeral Directors, Bel-mont. A graveside service conducted by the Rev. Samuel P. Warner will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood Cemetery.
