GASTONIA - Dean Carroll Wood, 87, died Oct. 4, 2011.

Born in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Daniel Clyde Wood and Ruth Styers Wood.

Mr. Wood and his business partner, Stuart Harris started Rainbow Paint and Wallpaper Co. in 1949. Mr. Wood eventually bought out Mr. Harris and today, the Wood family still owns and runs the business. A longtime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church,

Mr. Wood was active in all facets of the church including the Lingle Bible Class, Past President of the Lutheran Brotherhood and

Sunday school, member of the church council and numerous commit-tees.

Mr. Wood was active in a number of community organizations including the Gastonia Lions Club where he was a Past President as well as Zone Chairman for the NC Lions Club. He served as President of the Gastonia Merchants Association and was a former member of the Jaycees in addition to serving as President of the Covenant Village Asso-ciation and a member of the Board of Directors of Covenant Village. Professionally, Mr. Wood served as President of the Southern Paint Dealers Association as well as a Director of the National Paint Dealers Association. He was also honored as Boss of the Year.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wood was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Wood and sisters, Christine Helms and Nell Johnson.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Walker Wood; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Jerry Clemmons, and Pam and Steve Barkley, all of Gastonia; grandchildren and spouses, Tara Barkley Livingston and Matt Livingston, Mandy Clemmons Eaddy and Brooks Eaddy, Heath Barkley and Lisa Barkley; great-grandson, Adam Dean Untz; great-granddaughters, Ella Livingston, Kate Livingston, Abigail Barkley and Scout Barkley; sister, Isabell Brown of Lincolnton; godson, Jay Braddy of Gastonia; several nieces and nephews including special nephew, Dean Wood Heavener and wife, Mary Jane Heavener of Ringold, GA.

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Braxton East officiating.

Burial will be at Gaston Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. Thursday in the living room of Covenant Village and again from 1 until 2 p.m. Friday in the parlor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
