SWEETWATER, Texas - James Melford Vause, 82, passed away April 26, 2012.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at McCoy Chapel of Memories.

Military Honors will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Rev Paul Collins of Gastonia, North Carolina and Bo Whitaker of Abilene, Texas will be officiating services. Family visitation will be Sunday, April 29, 2012 from 5:00 P.M. until 7: 00 P.M. at McCoy Funeral Home.

Born on December 24, 1929 in Bowling Green, York County, South Carolina to Luther Vause and Thelma Hinson. He was the youngest of 4 children. He graduated from Gastonia High School in Gastonia, North Carolina in 1949.He graduated with honors- Cum Laude from Texas Christian University. He received a Masters Degree in History from George Peabody College (Vanderbilt University) in 1957. He received a Masters Degree in Guidance from Abilene Christian College (ACU) in 1967.

He served as a high speed radio operator in the United States Navy from 1950to1954 winning five Battle Campaign Stars in the Korean War. He taught and coached baseball at South Gastonia Junior High for nine years, winning four conference titles.

He was a school guidance counselor at Coulwood Middle School in Charlotte, North Carolina for 27 years. He won 9 Championships in baseball and softball at Coulwood Middle School

He was proceeded in death by his father, Luther J. Vause,step father, Henry J Ingram, mother Thelma Ingram, brothers, Luther W Vause, Lester R. Vause and sister, Dorothy Vause Parker.

Survivors include wife, MaryAnn Vause ,son Scott Vause and wife Lissa, grandsons Jason and Bryan Vause, sister in-law, Fayrene
Vause and nieces Maria "Flicka" Hudson and Rachel Sams.

Pallbearers will be Jason Vause, Bryan Vause, Tommy Neatherlin, Brett Hillis, Donald Hicks, and Gerald Palafox.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Mahaffey, Terry Radford, and Hugh Holland.

All arrangements are under the care and direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
