Harold Dunaway Obituary
He was born Oct. 7, 1933, in Mecklenburg County, son of the late Henry Glenn and Edith Mae Thomas Dunaway.
Mr. Dunaway was a US Air Force Korean War Veteran and a Masonic Lodge #369 member. He was known as a local dirt track race car driver legend. He drove in the Grand National and Grand Touring Series and later in life, built and drove sprint cars in the Dixie Outlaw Sprint Car Series. Harold was a man who lived life to the fullest, being an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, private pilot and a certified scuba diver. Most of all he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and hero to his family, who will be missed very dearly by them.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Greene Funeral Service, South Chapel, 1503 S. York Road, Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. Marvin Car-son.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 56 years, Frances Blackwood Dunaway; son Dean Dunaway and wife, Sherry; daughter, Lynn Dunaway Murrow; grandchildren, Ryan Dunaway and wife, Debra, Matthew Murrow, Reid Murrow, Taylor Dunaway; great grandchildren, Faith and Annie Dunaway.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: brother, Henry James Dunaway.
Memorials may be made to Revolution Church, 615 W. Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, NC 28052.
Arrangements are with the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and Crematorium, Gastonia.
