STATESVILLE - Don LeRoy Wilson Sr., 74, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 3, 1938, in Gaston County and was the son of the late William Marshall Wilson Sr. and Donnie Eloise Cannon Wilson.

Mr. Wilson was a graduate of Gaston County Schools, and on Feb. 1, 1963, he married his sweetheart, Gladious Fore Wilson, who survives. He served in the U.S. Army and attended Southview Baptist Church. He worked for Saab Barracuda as a textile chemist and retired in 2008.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Blaylock; and a brother, William M. Wilson Jr.

Along with his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Donna Lynne Wilson Yoder (Robert), of Stony Point, and Lisa Anne Wilson Bowman (David), of Hiddenite; a son, Donnie L. Wilson Jr. (Debbie), of Mooresville. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Joshua Yoder, Sarah Yoder, Ashley Bowman Bumgarner (Tyler), Kristen Bowman, Nicholas Bowman, Elizabeth Wilson Mountain (Elliott), Jessica Wilson and Kathryn Wilson.

Mr. Wilson is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Jude Mountain, Alexis Christian and Emmanuel Christian. He is further survived by a brother, Kelly D. Wilson; and several nieces and nephews; along with special friends, Pastor Wagner, Brother Duffer, Russ McKesson and J.C. Parks.

Mr. Wilson was an avid gardener and loved to do his yard work. He loved to watch NASCAR racing and Panthers football games. He enjoyed telling his family about being in the Army in Germany on border patrol and how much he loved driving tanks.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at Southview Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Wagner, the Rev. Larry Duffer and the Rev. J.C. Parks officiating.

Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 until 3 p.m. at the church.

Pallbearers will be Robert Yoder, David Bowman, Don Robertson, Chris Davidson, Bill Wilson, Jerry Strickland Jr. and Andrew Inboden. Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Yoder, Tyler Bumgarner and Nicholas Bowman.
