FAIRFAX, Va. - Thomas E. "Tom" Hovis, 73, passed away peacefully on Dec. 27, 2012, at Greenspring Village in Springfield, Va.

He was born in Lincolnton, but was a longtime resident of Fairfax, Va.

He was the beloved husband of Ann Hovis, devoted father of Edward Lee "Ted" (Jennifer) Hovis of Alexandria, Va., loving brother of Franklin (Gina) Hovis of Dallas, and proud uncle of Kevin Hovis. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Forrest Lumsden of Roanoke, Va. and his sister-in-law, Shirley (Bob) Houck of Culpeper, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Odell and Ruth Hovis, his sister, Ann Hovis and sister-in-law, Kay Hovis.

Tom was a U.S. Air Force veteran and worked in sales for the entirety of his career. He was a dedicated member of the American Legion Fairfax Post 177 where he served as a Historian for a number of years. He was also an active member of the Elks Club of Fairfax. In recent years Tom, along with his wife Ann, enjoyed bird watching.

Friends may visit from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, Va. Funeral ser-vices will be held at 1 p.m.

Interment will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park.
