GASTONIA - Sonya Messer Harlow, 49, of 1662-O Lowell Bethesda Road, went to be with her Heavenly Father the afternoon of Jan. 16, 2013, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, surrounded by loving family and friends.

Sonya was a loving wife, mother to two boys, and grandmother to three wonderful grandchildren, Candice, Peyton & Serenity Harlow that she loved more than anything. One of her most enjoyable times, besides taking care of her wonderful extended families, was shopping. We will cherish the memories during the holidays of great cooking, laughing and times spent reminiscing.
Sonya was a very caring person and loved taking care of people, during her services as a CNA for Gaston Memorial Home Health Care, Touched by an Angel and Meadowood Nursing Center. She attended Bethel Baptist Church.

Sonya was preceded in death by her father, James A. Messer of Gastonia, Grandparents, James A & Mildred S Messer of Gastonia, Joe A. and Alice Lundy of Tennessee.

A funeral service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Baptist Church, Gastonia, officiated by the Rev. James Drennan.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday prior to the funeral, other times at the home.

Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Belmont.

Survivors include husband, Kenneth W Harlow, Sr., of Gastonia. Sons, Kenneth W Harlow, Jr. and wife, Elizabeth, of Lowell, Kevin L Harlow and wife Kassie of Grover, mother, Amy Messer Bottoms and stepfather Floyd, of Lincolnton, brother Allan Messer and wife Sherry of Kings Mountain, sisters, Lisa Keeter and husband George, Debra Messer of Gastonia; brother-in-law, Roy S Harlow, Gastonia, several nieces and nephews, also be-loved cats, Frisky and Teddy of the home.

The family would like to thank the staff and doctors of Gaston Memorial Hospital, SICU, EMT's and doctors that have cared for Sonya throughout the years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Bethel Baptist Church, 3412 Redbud Dr., Gastonia, NC 28056.
