OPELIKA, ALA. - Graveside service for Shirley B. Myers, 70, of Opelika is 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, in Garden Hills Cemetery.

The Rev. Steve Scoggins is officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Monday at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home one hour prior to the graveside service.
Mrs. Myers was born May 18, 1942. She passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Bethany House in Auburn.
She was born and reared in Alabama. She married and moved to North Carolina in 1961.
She was secretary of Gaston County Democratic Party and member of Judicial Committee. She moved to Raleigh in 1981 and worked in Triangle Correctional Center for Men for five years before returning to Court Division. While there, she designed a Psychiatrist Mental Health Order for which she received recognition and compensation by Gov. Jim Hunt and chief of courts. The order was used throughout the Prison System for its simplicity and efficiency.
Mrs. Myers has been a member of First Baptist Church of Opelika since 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert S. Myers, her son, Robert Shane Myers; grandmother, Annie Leon Burrell "Mama," and father, Hoyt A. Barnett.
She is survived by son, Eric Lance Myers, of Opelika.; grandchild, Claudia Pearl Myers of Opelika; Aunt, Johnnie Simpson, of Opp, Aunt Ann (Frank) Moore, of Opelika, Aunt Christine Burrell, of Opelika; cousins, Danny (Dori) Reed, of Opelika, Kelly (Thomas) Gardner, of Lanett, Jack (Linda) Simpson, of Tallassee, Fla., and Joe Simpson, of Tampa, Fla.
