GASTONIA - William Charles Sherrill Sr., 82, passed away peacefully on Feb. 4, 2013, at Robin Johnson Hos-pice House.

Mr. Sherrill was born May 8, 1930 in Oakland, Calif., and was the son of the late Letha Smith Sherrill.
Mr. Sherrill was a graduate of the University of Miami. He worked for 38 years with Southern Bell where he was an engineer. After retiring from Southern Bell, he moved to Gastonia from Daytona Beach, FL. An active member of First Presbyterian Church, Mr.
Sherrill was a member of the Henderlite Class, the choir, and a past deacon. A noted vocalist, Mr. Sherrill sang in barbershop quartets and choruses including "The Miamians." He acquired his love for animals and wildlife from his mother. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing in Daytona Beach and traveling on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The times he spent with his family at Ocean Isle Beach and Hawaii were special to him.
Mr. Sherrill is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Alma Dell Sherrill; children and spouses, William Jr. and Jennifer Sherrill of
Davidson, Laura Sherrill and Terence Wesley-Smith of Kaneohe, HI, Doreen and Stephen Kowalczyk of Lake Wiley, SC and Randy and Mary Lisa Sherrill of Gastonia; grandchildren, William Sherrill, III, Kate Sherrill, Ian Wesley-Smith, Brendan Wesley-Smith, Krista Kowalczyk and David Kowalczyk; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Beatrice Sherrill of Dunwoody, GA; numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral for Mr. Sherrill beginning 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. John L. Frye Jr., Pastor John H. Stanley and the Rev. Walt Kriner will offi-ciate.
Burial will be private at Evergreen – A Quiet Place.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia and imme-diately following the funeral service at the church.
