BESSEMER CITY - Sam LaCount, 96, passed away Feb. 10, 2013, at Belaire Health Care Center, Gastonia.

He was born Sept. 10, 1916, in Clarke County, Georgia, to the late William and Amanda Crawford LaCount.

Sam was a member of First Baptist Church, Bessemer City and retired from Uniroyal Chemical Plant, Gastonia. He served with the United States Army in Panama during World War II.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley Newton, brothers, Roy LaCount, Paul LaCount, John LaCount; sister, Bessie Mae Fowler.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Farris LaCount; son, Jerry LaCount of the home; daughter, Bertha Wilson and husband Buddy of Spartanburg, S.C.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sisk-Butler Funeral Home Chapel, Bessemer City with the Rev. Tom Ravan officiating.

Interment will follow at Westview Gardens, Bessemer City with military honors by Bessemer City American Legion Post 243 Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Journey of Faith, PO Box 397, Bessemer City, NC 28016.
