GASTONIA - Carl Williamson Auten, 87, passed away April 15, 2013, at Kindred Transitional Care of Gastonia.

He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Luther and Kathryn Hart Auten; preceded in death by his son, Craig W. Auten; three sisters and two brothers.
Carl was a US Navy Veteran of WW II, self-employed homebuilder; charter member of the Gaston County Homebuilders Association, member of Faith United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and was active in all committees of the church.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sue Black Auten; grandchildren, Joshua and Kyle Auten; great-grandchild, Alissa Shea Auten; daughter-in-law, Anearl C. Auten; special cousin, L.A. Rhyne (Suzan) of Ellenboro; number of nieces and nephews;
A service to celebrate his life will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Kim Higgins.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
Burial will follow in Gaston Memorial Park with military honors by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
The family requests that memorials be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 1511 East Ozark Ave; Gastonia, NC 28054.
