GASTONIA - Allen Lee Dills, 90, passed away peacefully at the Robin Johnson Hospice House, Dallas on June 12, 2013.

Allen was a World War II veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge as a member of the 8th Armored Division. He was employed by Burling-ton Industries for nearly 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend with a kind heart and was a true southern gentleman. He was an avid reader, a lover of nature and enjoyed spending time with his annual vegetable garden, which he delighted in sharing with others. He was an active member of Flint Groves Baptist Church for many years. His Sunday school class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mr. Dills was born June 5, 1923, in Swain County, North Carolina, the son of the late Samuel Ramsey and Ida Frady Dills. He was preceded in death by brothers Doyle and Andy Dills and sister Gladys Dills Littrell.

He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 65 years, Macy Elders Dills, sons Douglas Duane Dills and wife Eileen of Raleigh, and Roger Allen Dills and special friend Terri Mainard of Charlotte. He is also survived by granddaughters Heather Dills DeVault and husband Craig of Raleigh, and Rachel Dills Aguirre and husband Edwin of Charlotte. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, Evianna Dills of Charlotte and Jack and Mark DeVault of Raleigh. Additionally, he is survived by his younger brother Seab Dills and wife Jean of Dallas. Furthermore, he is survived by many loving family members.

The family would like to express deep gratitude to the staffs of Caromont Regional Medical Center, Belaire Health Care Center, Carillon As-sisted Living of Cramer Mountain and the Robin Johnson Hospice House along with the many family members and friends who have provided love, support and comfort, especially over the last six weeks.

A visitation will be held 1:30 until 3 p.m. Saturday at Flint Groves Baptist Church, 2017 East Ozark Avenue, Gastonia.

The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Ronnie Bowers officiating.

Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park with Military Honors rendered by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
