GASTONIA – John Marvin Raines, 76, born June 22, 1937, went to be with his heavenly father on June 29, 2013 at the Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas.

He was native of Landrum, S.C. and the son of the late John Craven Raines and Mary Ethel Hyder Raines.
John was a graduate of Landrum High School and Clemson University. He retired from Pharr Yarns as a plant manager and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
John was a Christian and an active member of Chapel Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and on various committees. John was also a member of the Blessing Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ann Hayes Raines; one son, J. Scott Raines of Aiken, S.C.; a grandson, J. Caleb Raines; Sister, Becky Raines Travis and husband Bob of Irmo, S.C.; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
A homecoming and celebration of John's life will be held July 2 at 2 P.M. at Chapel Grove Baptist Church officiated by the Reverend Roger Overton.
The family will receive friends at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia on Monday, July 1 from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund, c/o Chapel Grove Baptist Church, 716 Camp Rotary Road, Gastonia, N.C. 28052.
The family would like to thank Dr. Steven Yates who was John's oncologist and the staff of the Robin Johnson Hospice House and Dr. Michael Case for the lov-ing and compassionate care given to John and his family.
