GASTONIA - Mr. Thomas Willard Turner, Sr., 90, of Gastonia, died Friday, July 5, 2013, at Robin Johnson Hospice House.
A native of Gastonia, he was born August 19, 1922, a son of the late Winford Thomas and Eloise Boyles Turner.
Mr. Turner retired from Bridgestone – Firestone Corp. after 30 years of service. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of West Franklin Ave. Baptist Church, VFW Post 9337, and the World War II Last Man Club of Gaston County. He was a loving and devoted hus-band, father and grandfather.
Survivors of Mr. Turner include his wife of 69 years, Velma Hoffman Turner; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Charles Jenkins; sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas W., Jr. and Joan Turner; John and Sharon Turner, all of Gastonia; nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Vera Fowler, and brothers, Willard and Oscar Turner.
The family will receive friends Monday, July 8, 2013, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. at Gaston Memorial Park with the Revs. Jeff Williams and John Gibbs officiating. Military Rites will be performed by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
