ALEXIS - Mary Bumgarner Stroupe, 99, passed away July 12, 2013, at the Robin Johnson Hospice House after a short illness.
She was born June 29, 1914, in Lincoln County, daughter of the late A.T. and Annie Wingate Bumgarner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David G. Stroupe; a brother, Billy Bumgarner; and a sister, Madeline Bumgarner.
She was a graduate of Lincolnton High School class of 1932. She was a longtime member of Alexis Baptist Church where she played the piano and organ for many years and also helped with the kindergarten classes. She loved her garden and flowers. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for her family especially for holidays. Christmas will not be the same without her and her fresh coconut cake. We thank God for letting us have her in our lives for such a long time.
Survivors include a daughter, Libby All and husband, Tom, of Alexis; a son, Jackie Stroupe and wife, Judy, of Stanley, a sister Bernice Hager, of Alexis; two grandchildren, Mark Stroupe and wife, Jane, of Salem, S.C., Amber Hozey, of Cramerton; three great-grandchildren, Travis Stroupe, Grant Luckey, and Will Hozey; a great-great-grandchild, Madison; and two nieces, Ann Harrill and Nellie Yates.
The funeral service, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Sandy Marks, will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Alexis Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family extends special thanks to the sixth floor South staff at CaroMont Regional Medical Center, Dr. Ronald Digby, Dr. Michael Case and staff of the Robin Johnson Hospice House for their care of Mrs. Stroupe.
