GASTONIA - Edna Floyd Smith, 101, of Covenant Village, died Sept. 13, 2013, at her residence.

She was born April 30, 1912, in Rome, Ga., daughter of the late Edward Johnson Floyd and Della Franklin Boswell Floyd.

Mrs. Smith worked in administration for Baugh and Mouche Company, was a homemaker, and worked for a time at Andora's, being known for her sense of style. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Gastonia where she was instrumental in establishing a Sunday School class for mentally disabled individuals. She was also a life member of United Methodist Women and served there in several ca-pacities. Mrs. Smith loved to decorate and the church was brightened by her touch for many years. She was also active as a member of the hospi-tal auxiliary, several bridge clubs, and the Charlotte Charity League. She was a music lover, playing the organ and piano, and enjoyed extensive travelling with her late husband, "Smut".

Mrs. Smith is survived by nieces, Mary Alice Hazell of Lakeland, FL; Suzanne Waldon Roberson of Lakeland, FL; Wanda King Smith of Calhoun, GA; Rosemary Waldon of Lakeland, FL; nephew; Tom Waldon, of Lakeland, FL; and special nephew, Judge Beverly Beal and wife Judy of Lenoir, NC; special friend, Connie Austin of Gastonia; and by a niece and nephews of her late husband.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walton K. "Smut" Smith, brothers, Richard Berton Floyd and Farris Bert Floyd, and her sisters, Lucille Floyd King, Kathleen Floyd Schnedl, and Jo Floyd Waldon, niece, Martha Jean Kouns, nephews, Gordon Waldon, Jr. and Dick Schnedl.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Smith will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Christy and Dr. James Westmoreland officiating.

The family will receive friends in the Health Center Assembly Room of Covenant Village on Thursday from 2:00pm to 3:00pm.

Interment will be held privately for the family at Gaston Memorial Park.
