RANLO - James Richard Simonds Sr., 75, passed away peacefully on Nov. 4, 2013, at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.

James was born in Swain County, son of the late Joseph L. and Dora Bowers Simonds.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. Jack Simonds, Charles Simonds and two sisters, Mary Mae Wyatt and Ruby Morton.

James was a retired field supervisor with Pinnix Construction. He attended the Dallas Church of God and was a US Navy veteran.

James is survived by his wife, Sonda Spivey Simonds; sons, James R. Simonds, Jr. and wife Drema, Daniel Todd Simonds and wife Keizia; brothers, Brother John Simonds and wife Faye, Wayne Simonds, Frank Simonds, Billy Simonds and wife Perie; sisters, Clara Lynn and husband Howard, Ruth Ivester, Nell Hamby and husband Mike, and grandchildren, David, Chris, Jake, Ashleigh, Amber and Kyle.

A visitation will be held 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday at Dallas Church of God with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Danny Shortridge, James Drennan and Eric Dawes officiating.

Entombment will follow the service at Gaston Memorial Park Mausoleum of Peace.
