Ruby met Elmer "Mac" one weekend when he was on leave from Ft. Bragg with a friend Neil Cannon from Stanley. He walked up on her porch and after seeing her, he asked her for a date. Two weeks later, he proposed to her.

She traveled extensively with him and visited such places as Germany, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, France, Italy, England, and Holland. They lived from the East coast to the West Coast. They lived a wonderful, blessed Christian life.
