J. Stansbury Obituary

Chief Master Sergeant J. Carter Stansbury, Sr., USAF (Ret.), age 95, a resident of Colorado Springs for many years passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Emeritus at Bear Creek. He had retired after serving his country for over 30 years in the United States Air Force where he was an administrator. He was stationed at various domestic and foreign locations beginning in 1941 and retired at Lowry AFB 1972. Carter was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.



James Carter Stansbury was born on November 15, 1917 in Abbeville, Louisiana to the late J. Foster and Alice (Bassett) Stansbury. He attended school in Louisiana. Prior to World War II he entered the Air Force. While assigned in Tokyo Japan he met and married the love of his life: Anne Setsuko Kawashima on December 27, 1950. Carter and Anne attended the Catholic Chapel at Peterson AFB and he was for many years a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed the Nightly Business News and watching Catholic Television EWTN. He will be best remembered for his love and loyalty of family.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anne of Colorado Springs; and his three children: J. Carter (wife Lu Ann) Stansbury, Jr. of Colorado Springs, Richard (wife Laura) Stansbury of Cleveland, Ohio, and Patricia (husband Ricardo) Ellis of Aurora, Colorado; six wonderful grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Carter was preceded in death by his son, James Michael Stansbury, in 2010; brothers: Howard, Foster, Francis, Bassett, and Warren Stansbury; his sister, Mary Alice Weber.



A visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2013 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel. A Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1830 South Corona Avenue, Colorado Springs. Entombment will follow at the Shrine of Remembrance Mausoleum, Garden of Angels. A reception will follow at the church.
