Marvin Carl Battcher, 77, a 16-year Colorado Springs resident, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 4, 2013. He was born on September 19, 1935, in Ontario, California, the son of Carl and Margaret Battcher. After graduating from high school and serving in the U.S. Navy, he went on to earn his BS degree from the California State University at Fresno, and a law degree in 1972 from Western State University in Fullerton, CA. He married Phyllis Chambers on June 18, 1955, in Ontario. He spent the majority of his career in executive management positions with the Allstate Insurance Company, moving his family to eight different locations around the nation. While living in Libertyville, Illinois, he served as a city trustee. After retiring in Colorado Springs, Marvin became a very active member of First Presbyterian church, serving as an elder and Clerk of the Session. A friend and mentor to many, he also helped form the church's Prime Time senior ministry program and volunteered with the parking ministry. He also volunteered at the Better Business Bureau and served as board chairman of the Hope and Home foster care agency. He enjoyed skiing, reading and gardening. Marvin is survived by his wife, Phyllis; and three children: Dwight Marvin (Sheri) of Brooklyn, Connecticut; Denise Michelle Hough (Steve) of Colorado Springs; and Duane Michael (Kathy) of Louisville, Kentucky. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother Lowell C. Battcher (Barbara) of Pacific Grove, California. In addition to his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by a grandson. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on January 11, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou Street with a reception to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to The Navigators, Young Life, Hope and Home or the Greenhouse ministry at First Presbyterian Church. Marv was a good friend and business associate at Allstate. I shared his love for snow skiing and boating. Marv led a Christian principled life and based his decisions on honesty and fairness. Our prayers and thoughts are with Phyllis and the family at this time. Norm and Del Buck, Hilton Head Is. SC.

Marvin Battcher was my dear friend, and a finer man cannot be found. I am blessed to have known him, as is my family. If there was a man more unselfish, more giving, more humble -- or a man that loved life, his family, and those he held as close friends more -- I have not met him. He often said, kiddingly, "I'm only here to serve." And, those few words, words that he used to kid others, sum him up for me, because serving his God and his family, and a host of other very lucky people was the life Marvin Battcher chose to live. I loved Marv and I will miss him terribly.

Marv was an inspiration of Christian love and integrity, and I am so happy to have enjoyed his friendship for the past 15 or so years. During our time on the board of a non-profit advocacy organization for foster children, Marv exemplified compassion and leadership. He will be dearly missed by many! Rest in the arms of our Lord and Savior, dear friend!
(Phyllis, my love and sympathy to you and your family. I have been away helping with my parents for the past 4 weeks returning at the end of January, and I was sad to know that I can't attend Marv's celebration of life due to this absence.)

Dearest Phyllis and family,
We are all so saddened by the loss of our beloved Marv. He was our rock when our parents died in 2007 and his love, compassion and wisdom helped guide us over the years. We loved him as our adopted dad, friend and role model of what it means to be a true Christian. We send our love, prayers and gratitude to have been so blessed to have him in our lives. God bless you and all of your family during this most difficult time. Love, Ginna, Chris & Jim Smyth

To the Battcher family:
Marv was my best friend and someone we will never forget. The memories will linger forever. Not only as a Christian friend but one I could always confide in. Marv lived the Christian life and it really showed out during his illness. Marv was the Good Shepard!
All our love to all of you. We now have a Super Angel looking after us!
In Christ
