Hildegard Dunnahoo Obituary

Hildegard Dunnahoo of Colorado Springs, CO passed away on February 23, 2013 at the age of 87. Hilde was born in Katowice, Poland on September 14, 1925. She married her husband, Major Jack Dunnahoo in 1954 in Garmisch, Germany. They then moved to Colorado Springs in 1955 where he was stationed with the US Army. In 1963 they opened The Sky Shop, LTD. on S. Tejon and operated the business until it was sold in 1980. They loved the "Shop" and many of their customers became their close friends. Hilde then spent her winters skiing and working for Gorsuch Ltd in Vail, CO and spent her summers hiking, biking and traveling. She is preceded in death by her parents, Antonia and Robert Baranski: and by her husband, Ret. Major Jack R. Dunnahoo. Hilde is survived by her son, Stephen, his wife Christina, their two children Sydney and Parker of Ft. Collins, CO.; by her daughter, Patty and her husband, Jeff of Bond, CO; sister Ellie Boehm; and numerous family and friends. Hilde will be missed dearly by all of us who knew and loved her. She shared with us her love, beautiful smile, laughter, and her generous spirit. She taught us to be positive, and to enjoy life and the great outdoors. The family would like to thank the staff at Evercare Hospice, and the staff at BEO, especially Kathi Ness, for their loving care and kindness. They would also like to thank the Logan family for their support, and Hilde's friends who helped her over the last two years. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 16, 2013 at "The Embassy Suites" on Commerce Street in Colorado Springs from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: The Colorado Trail Foundation, 710 Tenth St. Suite 210, Golden, CO 80401, 303-384-3729, www.coloradotrail.org

To Hilde's family,
I want you to know how much I will miss Hilde . It was an honor to know her and I was always touched when she would remember my birthday. I would get this nice call from her and she would inquire about my son Ben, who is between Sydney and Parker's age, and we would get a chance to catch up. She was so proud of her grandchildren. She loved working with all of us at Gorsuch and was such a good friend. She sure loved to ski and hike and I loved hearing about all the places she had traveled with her friends. She never was idle and always had something she wanted to do, someone she needed to see, and some place she had never been to that she wanted to go to. My husband Mike, my son Ben and I have all of you in our thoughts and prayers and always fond memories of Hilde.

Hildie:
Ironically, I called you yesterday not knowing you had passed into the mountains of heaven back in February. You meant so much to me. I will miss your laugh and spirit.
