Sally Sheets Obituary

Sally Sheets, 68, of Manitou Springs, Colorado, died Sunday, April 20, 2014, of multiple myeloma.

Sally was born October 17, 1945 at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri. As a child, Sally attended Hawthorne Elementary & Seventh Street Methodist Church, Kansas City, Kansas before moving with her parents "north of the river" to the Village of Oakwood where she had her horse, Sonny Boy in the back yard. Growing up, her summer residence was Chipita Park, Colorado where she acquired her lifetime love for nature and the outdoors. Her careers were as an elementary school teacher, social worker, professor at Wichita State University and property manager. Sally graduated from North Kansas City High School, attended William Woods College, graduated from The University of Kansas City & University of Kansas with a Masters in Social Work. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

Sally is survived by her sister Susan Sheets Masson of Lake Quivira, KS and niece Christena Masson Waldman of Gladwyne, PA.

Sally is preceded in death by her loving parents Virginia Mae Showalter Sheets and Guy Frank Sheets, grandparents Ella Lovina Reitz Showalter and John William Showalter, aunt Thelma Sheets Dill and nephew John Alexander Masson.

Sally returned to the Pikes Peak area 12 years ago living in Manitou Springs, Colorado to spend her remaining years as a naturalist, hiker, cyclist, tennis player, expert fly fisherwoman, and loving friend to her new Colorado family. Her greatest joy was teaching fly fishing and how to make flys. She was an active member of the Pikes Peak Flyfishers.

Her 3 angels, Elaine Meyer, Mary Williamson and Jeanne Browning along with Sally's family, have organized a celebration of Sally's life for June 21, 2014, at Memorial Park, Colorado Springs.

Honoring Sally's wishes, her remains were donated to The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, The Anatomical Board of the State of Colorado for research on the disease she so valiantly fought.

In Sally's memory, a donation to the Pikes Peak Flyfishers to teach children the conservation of Colorado lakes and streams and the lifetime joy of fishing she was so blessed to experience, would be greatly appreciated by her family and her dear Colorado friends.
