Marvin Grusing Obituary

Marvin Grusing, age 87, of Colorado Springs (formerly of Woodland Park and Burlington, Colorado) passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at his personal home.

He is survived by his beloved daughter, Marvanna Grusing of Florissant, Colorado and his sister Rita Grusing of Dallas, Texas. He was preceded by the death of his wife, Georgeanna, and his son, Gary.

Marvin was a husband, a father, a farmer, a proud veteran, a 32nd degree Master Mason, and a Rotary Club member. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Colorado Springs and Burlington United Methodist Church in Burlington. He was a huge Denver Broncos fan and never left the house without wearing his cherished Stetson.

Marvin was born to Herman and Lydia Grusing in Dighton, Kansas on June 1, 1926. At 18, he was drafted into the Army and was assigned to the 31st Infantry Division, where he participated in liberating the Philippines in 1945. At the end of the war, he was transferred to the 90th Field Hospital, from which he was discharged as a Sergeant and went home to his family's new home in Burlington, Colorado.

He was married to his wife, Georgeanna Hudson, at her parents' Burlington home in 1946. They lived on the farm for many years before relocating to Woodland Park and Colorado Springs while wintering at their home in Tucson, Arizona. They also enjoyed traveling the world, which included touring Europe many times. Marvin and Georgeanna were married for 62 years at the time of her passing in 2010.

Marvin will be cremated and buried at Fairview Cemetery in Burlington, and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014 at Burlington United Methodist Church, 290 13th Street, Burlington, Colorado.

Memorials may be made to the Marvin Grusing Memorial Fund in care of the Bank of Burlington. All of the proceeds will go to Marvin's favorite charities, which help American military veterans.

He was the respected patriarch of the Grusing family and will be dearly missed. Blessed be his memory.
