Robert Hough Obituary

Robert L. Hough, 78, passed away on Friday, May 31st, 2013, in Marana, Arizona. Robert was born in Washington, DC on May 15th, 1935 to Philip R. Hough and Nina Blanche (Cain) Hough. Robert attended St. Andrews School in Delaware and Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Virginia, then served in the Air Force from 1956 to 1960. He was stationed at Lowry AFB near Denver, CO, where in 1958 he met and married his wife, Joann Helen Schmidt, who survives him. Following his military service, Robert began a long career in the tech industry as a computer engineer, instructor and technical writer, and worked at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center during the early days of the space program. Known to a multitude of family, friends, and co-workers as "Huffie," he was a member of the Colorado Springs chapter of the Hash House Harriers. After retiring to Marana, he did volunteer work for the Marana Police Department, and was a member of the Sunflower Hiking Club. He had a passion for astronomy and sundials, and often spent time geo-caching or playing pool with friends. He enjoyed a life-long love of the outdoors, travel and exploration, and had a great sense of humor that he shared with many. Robert is also survived by his children, Philip J. Hough (Deb), Patricia A. Miller (Rod), Kathleen L. Hough (Matt), and Deborah L. Stelter (Eric), grandchildren Joanna Young, Jandy Stelter, and Jestin Stelter (Cari), a sister Barbara A. Miller (Robert), and a nephew Robert Miller Jr. (Ann). Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Robert's name to the Friends of Scotchman Peaks. Donation information can be found at www.scotchmanpeaks.org.

So sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Loved his sense of humor! I remember him going out to run at lunch everyday when we worked at DEC. What a great guy, he will be missed.

Joann, I knew Bob as Que-tip (his white hair and lanky runner's build. I am sorry for your loss.

I remember talking of his trips on the Al-Can highway to Alaska. While he drove for pleasure, I worked on that road for General Telephone's microwave network.
