Samuel Ernest Baer of Colorado Springs went to be with his Lord on October 1, 2013.
Born April 26, 1929 in Glen Hope, Pennsylvania to Fred F. Baer and Mildred (Green) Baer.
Sam enlisted in the Army Air Corp. upon graduation from high school. (Army Air Corp. became US Air Force) Where he served for 20 years. He served in Korea, which he was fond of telling that if he hadn't gone over there, the war would still be going on! His latest assignment was in Colorado Springs in 1964, at which time he and his family decided it was the place they wanted to retire. Upon his retirement from the service, he worked Civil Service for 20 years at the Air Force Academy.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth, sons Jonathan (Stacey) and David (Rose), and their families, step-son Gary, step-daughter, Kristi, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His daughter, Brenda, preceded him.
Sam was a quiet, gentle, loving man who cherished his family, his God, his home, and his country. He was always ready with a silly joke. He loved to make people laugh.
There was a deep sadness in his and his family's lives when his wife, Mildred, passed from this life. In early January, 1988, Sam and Ruth, who was also widowed, met at a grief support meeting. They both knew immediately they were meant for each other and they married June 11, 1988.
At that time, Ruth was a volunteer with Widowed Persons Service in Colorado Springs. Sam also became a volunteer. In 1990, Ruth became leader of the group and Sam became "co-leader." Together, they have served as leaders of Widows Persons Service.
Viewing is at 10 am. Service at 11 on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Evergreen Funeral Home with burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery (Denver, CO) at 2 pm.

My condolences to his family. My mother used to watch Jonathon and David when they were little, and we had much interaction with Millie and Sam. Prayers and thoughts are with you in this difficult time.
