Bobby U. Brown Sr.

On the morning of May 25th, when God called his name, Bobby U. Brown, Sr. (aka "Chief", "The Real Bobby Brown") peacefully rested in the arms of the Lord. He was at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 6, 1930, in Dermott, Arkansas, to Lee Gustus and Winnie Louise (Bailey) Brown. Being the third child in a family of nine children, Bobby was always a "natural born leader." His earliest education was received at the Ashley County Training School in Crossett, Arkansas. In 1942 when the family moved to Pine Bluff, he attended Merrill High School for two years and graduated from J.C. Corbin in 1947. In 1948, he joined the United States Army for one year and later joined the U.S. Air Force serving for 28 years including two deployments to Vietnam. Bobby retired in 1977 with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, receiving many accolades and awards.

In 1952 he married the love of his life, Ida Mae Parr in Earle, Arkansas, and to this beautiful union, nine children were born: Bobby U. Jr., Janice Fay, Debra Ann, Linda Yvonne, Ronald Duane, Sharon Marie, Bruce Kevin, Tonja Renee, and Michael Eric.

After retirement, Bobby earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. He then worked in Civil Service for an additional 13 years.

Theirs was a true military family, moving numerous times across the country when Bobby was transferred to various military bases. Bobby easily made lifetime friends with whom he enjoyed fishing trips, bowling, playing cards and dominoes, and entertaining. He also loved playing chess and collecting chess sets. He was an avid reader, especially of poetry and history, and enjoyed his vast collection of all genres of music and books.

He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and was a proud and active member of Payne Chapel A.M.E. Church, Colorado Springs, serving at various times in the Lay Organization, senior choir and as a trustee for many years before his health declined; and was named a Trustee Emeritus.
