Charles L. Graham

Charles Leroy Graham was born October 5, 1922 in Quinter, Kansas to Charles E. and Evadne Graham.

He attended Quinter schools and after he graduated he was drafted into the Army and spent the war years in Germany. He had many memories of fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He was also trained as a cook during his service.

When he returned to Quinter he married Willa D. McConkey on July 19, 1946. They lived in Quinter where he worked as an appliance repairman and electric lineman. In 1963 the family moved to Colorado Springs where Charles was employed into civil service at Ent Air Force Base and Peterson Field Air Force Base as an Exterior High Line Electrician until his retirement in 1987. His retirement and most beloved job was driving cars for Avis car company for 15 years.

He was the father of 4 daughters, Susan K. Keller of Quinter, Kansas; Deborah D. Lemmon of Bryan, Texas; Rebecca L. Knox of Wichita Falls, Texas and Jennifer L. Madden of Denver, Colorado. In March 2013 he was preceded in death by Susan Keller. He has 8 beloved grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Circle Drive Baptist Church where he served as an usher. He never knew a stranger and tried to make every one he met feel welcomed and comfortable. He was proud to have lived to be 90 years old.

His real passion was gardening and driving cars. In his lifetime he owned 30 different cars. Charles trained horses in Kansas and had dedication to all animals. He was also an avid fisherman. He taught all of his daughters to be good and careful drivers. His other devotion was making his wife and daughters comfortable and they loved gardening with him.

A Memorial Service for Charles will be held on Friday, October 4,2013 at 10:00 AM at Audobon Heights Community Church, 2404 N. Union Blvd., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
