Cranford D. Newell died suddenly of acute myocardial infarction on July 3, 2013 with his wife of thirty-three years, Marilyn, by his side. Cran was born on February 18, 1941, to the late Thomas Knox and Paula Russell Newell. In addition to his wife, Cran is survived by his sons Craig, Brent (Beckie) and Cranford, Jr. (Elisabeth); his grandchildren Gavin, Jessica, Drake, and Brady; brother Tom (Edie); and his sister-in-law and brother- in-law Daphne and Robert Mason. He also leaves to treasure his memory, their chosen family member and neighbor, Thelma Morici, and their dogs Blade, Sunny, and Emma. Cran grew up in the central valley of California. He received his undergraduate degree from San Jose State University and attained his Master of Business Administration at the University of California at Berkeley. Prior to moving to Colorado, he spent many years in the investment banking business and developing commercial real estate. Cran and Marilyn chose to move to Colorado Springs in September, 1993, where Cran founded Gateway RV. He loved living in Colorado which afforded him the opportunity to hunt and fish in the tranquil surrounds. A memorial service will be held at 3:00p.m. on August 3, 2013, at Grace and St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 601 N. Tejon Street, 80903. A reception will be held in the Parish Hall from 4:00 - 6:00 to receive friends.
