Dorce D. Lunsford

Dorce D. Lunsford of Monument, CO passed away on November 14, 2012 in Denver, CO. Dorce is survived by his daughters, Glenda (Bill) Bird of Aurora, CO, and Kathryn (Russell Hooten) Lunsford of Durango, CO; grandchildren, Adam (Michelle) Bird and Aaron Bird, both of Aurora, CO, and great-grandchildren, Tor, Cayden, Ayla and Maddox of Aurora, CO. He is also survived by his sisters, Donna (Don) Gibson of Colorado Springs, CO, and Peggy Nicoli of Denver, CO. Dorce was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Fran, and his sister, Joy Campbell. Dorce was born in Davis County, IA, October 6, 1922. In 1944 he joined the Air Force and was a WWII veteran. While stationed at Lowry AFB, he retired from the Air Force as Lt. Col. in 1965. He continued his flying career with Atlas Aviation, Gates Learjet and U.S. Soil. He was an avid sportsman most of his life and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and hiking. He shared these activities with family and friends. Along with his love of the outdoors was his love of flying. This love of flying took him all over the world as a pilot with the military and private businesses. Dorce will be missed by all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be held the first part of 2013.
