Etta Jeanne Sayers

Etta Jeanne was born in Pueblo, but came home to the family farm in Lincoln County. A few years later the family moved to West Cucharras Street. When Etta Jeanne was 13, they bought the house she resided in for 77years!

She graduated from Colorado Springs High School(Class of 1941) and immediately went to work for the Bell Telephone Company. She retired after nearly 42 years of service, where she worked the switchboard early on and helped set up remote sites such as Vail and Camp Hale. She was a member of the telephone Pioneers.

As a child her family spent every summer in Ruxton Park up on Pikes Peak, where she learned to fish, a hobby she enjoyed for years!

Etta was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Marguerite Sayers, and by her cat, Sasha, who she spoiled for 16 years.

She is survived by cousin Kathy Hill; her favorite neighbor Don Duran: and very close friends, all of whom she worked with at the phone company.

A memorial service will be held later this month.

Contributions may be made in Etta's name to Legacy Hospice or the Humane Society.
