Florrie Harton Marquette passed away peacefully on June 4, 2013 in Colorado Springs. She was born August 10, 1921 in Conway, AR to Benjamin Moore and Mildred (Johnston) Harton. Florrie was the second of four children for Moore and Mildred and grew up on a block surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She attended Conway High School and graduated from Hendrix College in Conway, AR. She met the devastatingly handsome Donald Edward Marquette in Little Rock, AR and they married on March 27, 1945. During Don's 30 year career with the Air Force, Don and Florrie welcomed three children, Ronald (Diana) Marquette, Mimi Marquette and Thomas (Eve) Marquette. . She completed her Master's Degree in Education at Colorado College. In her spare time, she was a life master duplicate bridge player. She and Don loved Jazz and Swing Music; they were regular fixtures on the dance floor at The Tavern where she was known to many as the Watermelon Lady. Florrie was preceded in death by her beloved Don, her parents and her son Thomas. Florrie is survived by Ronald (Diana) Marquette and Mimi Marquette, five granddaughters, 13 great-grandchildren, her sisters Mickey (Paul) Poindexter, Terry (Bob) Lossee, her brother Danny (Billie) Harton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of her life will be held at the family home, 1209 Morning Star Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80906 from 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM, Saturday, June 22.
