Gay Jones passed away in Colorado Springs on September 14, 2013 at the age of 101.
She was born in Spring City, Missouri to Charley and Cora B. Emmitt Myers on November 19, 1911. Gay attended Spring City High School and Joplin Business College. She married Frank W. Jones on June 28, 1933.
Gay worked at Perkins Laundry in Joplin for several years. She and Frank owned a number of restaurants together. In 1942 they moved to Pittsburg, Kansas, where they owned Sellers Restaurant and Otto's Café. They moved to Colorado Springs in 1948. While living in Colorado Springs, they owned the El Tejon, the Garden Lane and Jones' Drive-In. Upon retiring, Gay and Frank moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. Gay returned to live near family in Colorado Springs in 1989, where she remained until her passing.
Frank and Gay had one son, Robert Frank Jones and a daughter, Carla L. Foresyth House. Gay is survived by her daughter, Carla, of Colorado Springs; granddaughters, Tracie Weiman, Sandra (Pete) Wupper, Virginia, Julie and Mary Kay Jones; sisters, Ruth Lamb and Mary Daughtery. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Gay was preceded in death by her parents, Charley and Cora; her husband, Frank; her son, Robert; granddaughter, Robin Foresyth; brothers, Alvin, Ray and Roy Myers; sisters, Violet Drake and Pansy Clark.
Gay was accomplished in crochet and knitting, leaving behind many beautiful works given to family & friends. Gay was a very generous and loving woman. Her greatest joy came from her family and large circle of friends. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
Services and burial will take place in Joplin, Missouri.
