Jane Robinson Hutchins

Jane Hutchins was born in Fairfax, Oklahoma on September 15, 1935. The family moved to Guthrie, OK, where she graduated from Guthrie High School as their valedictorian. She was granted a PEO scholarship to Cottey College in Nevada, MO. Jane then transferred to the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fine Arts. Post graduation, Jane was employed as a training instructor at Foley's Department Store in Houston, TX. While there, she met her husband to be (of 54 years), Earl C. Hutchins, a chemist at Shell Chemical Co. Upon his transfer to New Orleans, LA, Jane later moved to New Orleans also. They were married after a snowstorm in Norman, OK on December 30, 1959, and the couple transferred to the Shell facility in Union, NJ. Her husband was accepted to Tulane Medical School which lead to another move, this time back to New Orleans. Jane worked as an executive secretary at American Can Company, and while PHT (putting husband thru), she served as a legal secretary for a major New Orleans law firm. The family lived at 365 Basin Street, and Kim, Greg and Brian came along to join the family. Jane Hutchins had many interests and talents. She enjoyed traveling, particularly ocean cruising, and has visited all seven continents with her husband of fifty-four years. She collected perfume bottles and won the Barden's Award for the best 1986 paper on their original style. She quilted, wove baskets, and offered her talents in crafts. She had a love for antiques. She founded the Arvilla-Meeker Questers in Greeley, CO and co-founded the Longs Peak Chapter 1347 Questers in Colorado Springs, CO. She was a life-time member of Alpha Chi Omega also. She shared an interest in scouting with her husband being a troop leader to her daughter, Kim (First Class=Golden Award) and den mother to Brian, Todd and Matt (the latter two were both Eagle Scouts). Jane served in many roles as a parishioner in her Catholic parishes at both Greeley and Colorado Springs -in the Women's Guild and Holiday Bazaar. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Earl Hutchins of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter, Kimberleigh "Kim" Hutchins of Los Angeles, CA; sons: Brian Hutchins of San Diego, CA, Todd (Marissa) Hutchins of Eaton, CO and Matt (Maruta) Hutchins of Seattle, WA; brother, James Robinson of Oklahoma City, OK; and her loving grandchildren: Jack, Sam, Mary, and Ieva. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Alice Robinson; sister, Sally Robinson; and her two infant sons, Gregory and Bradley Hutchins. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 11th at 6:00 PM with Recitation of Rosary at 7:00 PM at St. Peter Catholic Church, 55 N Jefferson St., Monument, CO. Funeral Mass will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, June 12th at St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Crookston, MN.
